New Two Factor Authentication Feature on Instagram and Web Sharing

Instagram is widely popular among young people, and a lot of influencers are active on it. While there is a lot of business and personal activity going on in the app, then there will be security concerns, and Instagram is giving its user a better option for 2-factor authentications.

Till now, users will only get the option to send the code on their phone numbers through SMS, but now with this new update, users have the option to log in to the app with the help of WhatsApp also.

Photo sharing app Instagram may soon give its users a new feature related to two-factor authentication (2FA). Users will be able to send authentication codes to WhatsApp messengers or WhatsApp businesses while logging in to Instagram with the new feature. So far, users have the option to send this code to their phone number only through SMS. WhatsApp will make the login option easier for users.

What is 2-factor authentication?

Two-factor authentication or 2FA is a security system in which users have to identify two different identities while logging into the account. The first identity can be a password, and the second may be a verification code that adds an extra security layer. This feature is optional on most apps, i.e., it is in the hands of the user to enable or disable it. Instagram users will soon be able to take the help of WhatsApp to generate verification codes.

Instagram has not given any official details about the new authentication option. App analyst Alessandro Paluzzi has revealed that Facebook is working on this option. He has also shared screenshots on Twitter showing the UI of the new feature, and this option can be available on both Android and iOS platforms. This feature will be available when you log in to Instagram after Facebook rolls out a new option for users.

How will the new authentication feature be going to work?

Instagram will first ask for the user’s phone number after 2FA enabled on the user’s phone number. He will be told, “Before confirming your WhatsApp account, let’s add your phone number. WhatsApp will not store any of your information.
The 9to5Mac report says that this option will help users better after getting multi-device support in WhatsApp, and they will not always need to carry the phone.

The multi-device feature is very useful now as people have multiple devices like tab and web apps which are having calling functions, and one can receive the message on the respective devices either it is the web WhatsApp, or you are using your WhatsApp on your tab.

Web versions will be able to post photos and videos.

Instagram is also working on giving its users a better experience on the web. Reports have revealed that users will soon be able to share photos and videos from Instagram’s website as well. This is something which is needed for a long time, as the social media marketing persons work with their systems on the web app and don’t find this option, so it will ultimately lead to use some extension for photos and videos.
Alessandro has said that after the update, post creators will be available in the web version, which so far only goes to Android and iOS users in the mobile version of the app. Basic editing options will also be given to users in the web version.

Let’s hope both these things are rolled out together so that people will get the maximum from Instagram in terms of authentication and sharing, which is currently done with limited options.
